Hello, lovelies! I recently wrote a post about my favorite gift idea for grads, which you can read by clicking here. I wanted to broaden my scope and create a list of things that are currently trending and would be other great gift ideas for grads. I just graduated from college last month, so I am so excited for this year’s graduates. This list would be perfect for a high school grad’s party or a nice house warming gift for a recent college graduate. I think you will love some of these so much that you will want to snag one for yourself too!
1. Faux Fur Sheepskin Rug
Faux fur rugs are all the rave recently, especially small white ones like this one from Walmart, which is only $17.95! These can be used as a rug or styled on a desk chair for the ultimate luxurious desk space. I have seen these on a few people’s YouTube channels and love the way they look laid out on a chair, especially a clear acrylic desk chair!! They just scream glamorous. You could also lay them over a storage ottoman for a nice look.
2. LED String Lights
I have a string of these fairy-like lights from RTGS, and I absolutely love them! They lit up my entire dorm room at night when I strung them around the ceiling. They have bright and warm white options so you can create your desired look. They are strung on a thin wire that can be bent to position them the way you want. They also have smaller strands and different colors that would be perfect for smaller areas, like your desk! These lights are super affordable at only $13.95 for a 32 ft long wire with 100 LED lights!
3. Candles (or Scent Warmers)
I’ll admit that I had a small collection of candles in college although most dorms don’t allow them. If your friend is a rule bender, she would love some of Bath and Body Works 3-wick candles because they are so damn expensive and we all hate to buy them for ourselves. They are currently on sale for 50% off making them only $11.25 (normally start at $22.50). There are so many good scents that you will be able to find the perfect one for your grad! My current favorite is the Bergamot Mint, and I love that it comes in a marble jar. I have had a tab open on their site with a cart full of candles but am still contemplating whether I should pull the trigger. If your friend plays by the rules, you could always settle for a scent warmer for $16.50 and pair it with a few fragrance melts!
4. Folding Storage Ottoman
One of my friends bought one of these for me when I graduated from high school, and I absolutely loved it. It was so versatile and low profile. At times it held my books, and other times it held my empty beer cans but it was always useful, and it made my dorm feel homey. I found this glamorous storage ottoman from Joss & Main for only $21.99 (originally $39.99!!). This one fold into the lid like mine did, so it is very easy to pack at the end of each semester. Bulky furniture is not your best friend when you have to move in and out at the end of each year.
5. LED Clip Lamp
I bought this lamp at Walmart a few months ago and I love it! It is super bright and the clip allows you to attach it to your bed frame for a nice light to do some late night reading from the comfort of your bed without disturbing your roommate! It has an adjustable neck so you can position the lamp any way you want. When I bought mine, they were on clearance for only 98¢, but they are selling online for only $5.87, which I think is reasonable because of how great this lamp is! I got one in gold and one in pink, which doesn’t show up on the website but it is also available in black. In stores, you may find other colors too! The website claims that this lamp has a whopping 25,000-hour bulb lifespan, which is believable because I use this for a few hours every night and it is just like when I first bought it!
If you are a parent, family member or friend with a big budget, a vacuum is a great gift for a grad. Most dorms have carpet floors, and they are disgusting. I recommend that everyone going to college should buy a decent vacuum- even if you make an agreement with your roommate to go half and half on it. It is totally worth it. I purchased this Dyson vacuum on Black Friday two years ago, and it was the best purchase I ever made. It’s currently on sale for only $349.99 until 6/10/17 (regularly $399.99). There are other cheaper alternatives out there, but I can confidently vouch for this one. It took so much dirt out of my dorm room carpet that I was disgusted by my cheap vacuum that I had been using up to that point. I still use this vacuum in my apartment to this day and will be a gift that your grad will be able to use for years.
7. Throw Pillows
Throw pillows have a way of making a place feel like your own. Target has a wide array of funky and glamorous throw pillows that range in price from $17.99-$19.99 each. This is the perfect gift to add some personality to your grad’s new home away from home! You can get other cute throw pillows online but just be cautious- I have seen some websites trying to sell just the throw pillow covers, and you have to buy the pillow separately. Make sure you read the fine print if you are going to have your gift shipped!
8. Throw Blanket
Throw blankets are a necessity for college. During the winter, dorms can get so cold and a blanket like this from Society 6 would be an amazing gift that will have your grad thinking of you everytime she curls up in it. These blankets are sherpa underneath so they will provide the ultimate amount of heat. The price point on these isn’t too bad at $49 because they are printed with artwork by all sorts of artists. I love this floral one but you can search the website to find a piece of art that you think would be perfect for your grad’s blanket!
9. Funky Room Decor
I fell in love when I first saw these cinema box signs! This one is from Nordstrom Rack for only $19.97. I first saw these mini cinema boxes at Michaels and thought they are the cutest way to decorate a room. Your grad can write different inspirational messages for herself and her roomie or even reminders to do laundry. Other ideas like this could be pieces of pottery or other knick knacks. I think Home Goods would have some awesome things for dorm rooms! I can’t go in that store without coming out with something awesome!
10. Keurig Coffee Maker
I will end this list with the one thing that got me through college! There was a coffee shop on campus but I saved a ton of money by making my own cup of joe ;). I have this same Keurig (except it may be an older model) and I love it so much! You can buy this Keurig K50 Coffee Maker from Walmart for only $89. If your grad is a coffee addict, she will worship you for buying this gift!
I hope you all enjoyed reading this gift guide and that it gives you some inspiration. If you buy any of these for a grad, or even yourself, let me know which ones! I would love to read your comments!
Thank you for reading!
