4 Healthier Snack Choices to Curb Your Cravings

If you’re a lady who’s always on the go, you know how hard it can be to keep up with your healthy eating habits! I feel your pain and therefore wanted to share some of my favorite snacks with all of you! If you are craving junk food, reference this post for healthy alternatives! I also love snacks that have transparent ingredient lists, which you will notice in my snack suggestions! You’ll also notice that all of these options are vegan since I have been eating a vegan diet the past two months.

Craving something salty and crunchy?

Instead of peanuts or cashews, eat:

The Good Beans come in a variety of flavors and are Gluten-free, Vegan, Kosher, and Non-GMO! Costco 18 oz. sea salt chickpeas are also certified nut-free if you have an allergy concern!

1 oz. of the sea salt flavor contains 120 calories, 3 grams of fat, 18 grams of carbs and 5 grams of protein. This compares to 1 oz. name brand peanuts containing 170 calories, 14 grams of fat, 2 grams of carbs and 7 grams of protein!

INGREDIENTS: Roasted chickpeas, expeller-pressed safflower or sunflower oil, coarse salt, natural Vitamin E.

Craving a buttery bag of popcorn?

Instead of movie theater butter popcorn, eat:

Skinny pop comes in seven different flavors and has no artificial ingredients or flavors, is non-GMO, gluten free, dairy free, certified vegan, peanut free, tree nut free, preservative free, zero trans fat, and is a good source of fiber.

1 serving size of Skinny Pop (3 3/4 cups) has 150 calories, 15 grams of fat, 75 mg of sodium and 2 grams of protein. Four cups of popped movie theater butter popcorn have 170 calories, 12 grams of fat, 14 grams of carbs, 300 mg of sodium and 2 grams of protein.

Although the macronutrients are almost the same in these two snacks, the sodium in the movie theater butter popcorn is more than 3x that of the Skinny pop! You could also try Popcorners, but Skinny pop tastes better in my opinion and will better crush the craving for popcorn!

INGREDIENTS: Popcorn, sunflower oil, and salt.

Craving a fruity treat?

Instead of a Newton bar or fruit snacks, eat these:

Offered in 6 varieties, these bars are nut free, made with genetically engineered ingredients, made with no added sugar, kosher, gluten-free and vegan. They are low sodium and a good source of fiber and contain 2 servings of fruit per bar!

The strawberry apple chia bar (35 grams) contains 110 calories, 0.5 grams of fat, 25 grams carbs, 19 grams sugar and 1 gram protein. This can be compared to a strawberry Newton bar (only 29 grams), which has 100 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbs, 12 grams of sugar and <1 gram of protein.

INGREDIENTS: Strawberries, apples and chia seeds.

Craving chocolatey ice cream?

Instead of a pint of high fat ice cream like Haagen Dazs, eat:

So Delicious Soymilk frozen dessert is non-GMO, kosher, vegan, gluten-free and USDA organic! It can also be found in different flavors and made with cashew milk instead of soy milk. They also have nondairy ice cream bar varieties.

1/2 cup of So Delicious has 130 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 23 grams of carbs, 14 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein. Comparably, 1/2 cup of Haagen Dazs chocolate ice cream has 260 calories, 17 grams of fat, 22 grams of carbs, 19 grams of sugar and 5 grams of protein!

INGREDIENTS: Organic Soymilk (water, organic soybeans), organic dried cane syrup, organic tapioca syrup, organic cocoa powder, organic soybean oil, tapioca dextrose, locust bean gum, natural flavor, guar gum, gellan gum.
